[SOLVED] Xebra emulator help

This emulator is supposed to be the best for PSX... but I can't pass the bios screen... i have the bios renamed in the folder where Xebra.exe is, I try to load several images (bin) directly and any of them work (the emulator hangs in the PS logo screen)... so the emulator requires BIN/CUE and daemon tools to even boot a game? or I have another problem?... i am about to get a game in BIN CUE format... but can't test until tomorrow... so i left this question here for someone with more experience.

You need Daemon Tools, yes. Format doesn't matter as long as DT can mount it.
You can also use Mednafen for PSX, these days it's almost as good as Xebra. You'll probably need both to be able to run all games though.

great, i have another problem with Mednafen, but I have some free time right now (in fact I should be studding :rolleyes: ) so will try it, already use Mednafen for other systems.

EDIT: Mednafen problem... just with PXS, bioses in the firmware folder, launch a game and nothing happens HL waits for the SDL window until an error is displayed... and HL exits.

Are you sure you are able to send a bin directly to mednafen?

Usually I see emus not launch like that when I'm building a module and I don't send a correct or supported rom to the emu.

Not sure either, I'd trying using a cue file and see if that works. Also try getting it to run through command line first, Mednafen is pretty easy to debug as it will spit any errors to a log file so make sure you check it and you should be able to figure what's wrong.

Also in HLHQ enable General Settings -> Logger -> Show Command Window & Log Command Window

This is pretty much the same as running it outside HL to have it log what the emu dumps out as an error. Read the tooltips for those options for additional info, like where to find the logs.

Yep your answer is right there in your log and that thread. You need to send the cue because the emu thinks a bin is a rom. Make sure cue is before bin in your emulator's extensions in HLHQ.

It works, kind of... i have to convert BIN to BIN/CUE (don't think this is the correct way to do it, i will have to get BIN/CUE dumped games, but can't right now).... some games work, others show me "VIDEO ERROR" (or someting similar) in green font. This is with or without Daemon Tools, my problem should be the Games.

Also change the version i was using because was different from the module version.

ohh and the bezel looks bad, like four part of the screen is actually used... i change the values of Bezel_x/y_scale but without luck.

PSXfin is the only emulator that works with all bin files i have for now.

EDIT: The STANDARD VIDEO MISSMATCH message in a bug in Mednaffen. Still have the bezel problem btw, but even in full screen it dont looks so great, will need to tweak the settings when I lear a little more of mednaffen and is extrage way of manage screen size.

EDIT 2: finally I decide to keep using PSXfin, it works with my limited collection of games just fine, don't have features like multipad support but works with 2 players. Also i create a CUE file for every bin using cuemaker, so I can use daemon tools and multigame... Don't have tested this yet but it should work.

The only thing I don't like of pxsfin is is window being visible before the game runs.

When I get some free time will have to test zebra again.
